ST. GEORGE – Defense attorney Douglas Terry asked Judge Eric Ludlow today to schedule a jury trial in the case of Hurricane man Brady Heber Aiken, 26, who is accused of sexually abusing a toddler.
 
Prosecuting attorney Ryan Shaum said Ludlow agreed to set the trial and wanted Aiken back in court Feb. 8 for a review status.
 
Today’s status review was set after Terry had asked for more time in the case because he wanted to see if a possible resolution could be found. Shaum said Terry had spoken to the state about a resolution, but nothing had been agreed upon before today’s hearing.
 
Aiken, who was granted visitation with his alleged victim in the last status hearing, was bailed out of jail the day of his arrest for the alleged incident by his uncle who paid $40,000 in cash to free Aiken. Aiken remains out on bail while he awaits the trial.

Tracie Sullivan previously reported for the Dixie Press that Aiken reportedly admitted to the Hurricane Police Department that he sexually abused two children, both under the age of five. One of the children resides in Washington County while the other in Kane County.
 
Aiken also faces charges in Kane County for allegedly sexually abusing a child in 2000 while still a juvenile. Kane County is looking at possibly enhancing their charges against Aiken pending the outcome of his prosecution here.
 
According to court records, Aiken was investigated in 2003 for sexual abuse of a child, but no formal charges were ever filed. In addition, court records revealed that Aiken, during the police interview, allegedly admitted to developing an addiction for child pornography while attending college. Police believe there may be other victims besides the two Aiken allegedly admitted to during the interview.
