Red Storm Tournament Bound

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second straight year, the Dixie State College men’s basketball team earned a spot in the 64-team field for the NCAA Division-II National Tournament.

The Red Storm are the No.4-seed in the West Region and will face conference rival Chaminade University at 5:30 p.m. Pacific time Friday in Ellensburg, Wash. The regional is hosted by the top-seeded Wildcats of Central Washington University.

Dixie State College nabbed a tournament spot as the Pacific West Conference’s automatic qualifier. A 13-3 mark in league play, tying with the Silverswords, produced a share of the PWC title.

Sweeping Chaminade gave the Red Storm the tiebreaker. DSC won 70-52 at home in February and pulled through a thrilling 72-69 win in Honolulu last week.

In other action, the Wildcats of CWU will face a conference rival, Seattle Pacific in the first round. The winner of that matchup will battle the DSC/Chaminade winner.

On the other half of the bracket, Cal State Dominguez Hills drew BYU-Hawaii in the 2-7 matchup. The final matchup (3 vs. 6) pits two conference tourney runners-up with Humboldt State versus Alaska Anchorage.

The West Regional tournament will play first round games Friday, the second round on Saturday and the regional final Monday evening. “Voice of the Red Storm” John Potter will have live coverage of every game the in which the Red Storm participates.

Dixie State makes its second tournament appearance. Last year, the eventual national champion, Cal Poly Pomona, eliminated DSC in the first round.
