St. George Men Arrested in Ivins Burglary

IVINS – Officers arrested two St. George men last night after the men allegedly broke into a house that was one week away from being moved into.

Sgt. Rich Rogers said neighbors called police after noticing a vehicle in the driveway of an unoccupied home that had just been built. When officers arrived, they discovered the house was open and electronics, including a flat screen TV, were stacked in a pile.

Rogers said at that same time, the vehicle in the driveway was reported as stolen. The officers asked the reporting party to come identify the stolen vehicle.

“We noticed some irregularities with their story,” Rogers said.

Rogers said the two men eventually allegedly admitted to breaking into the home and then reporting their vehicle stolen after the police arrived.

Rogers said there was no sign of forced entry into the home, and that the majority of burglaries in Ivins are from owners leaving vehicles, doors and windows unlocked.

Rogers added that there has not been a noticeable increase in crime in Ivins recently, but the officers were lucky to catch the alleged suspects this time.
