ST. GEORGE – Don’t miss the inaugural Run 4 Reggie 5K on Aug. 27. The event begins at 7 a.m. and will be held at Staheli Farms, 3400 South Washington Fields Rd.

The Run 4 Reggie event was created after Kyle and Josie Bell delivered a stillborn daughter, Reggie Bell, at Dixie Regional Medical Center on Aug. 27, 2010.

The grieving family received a priceless gift from the hospital that included a lock of hair, a molding of Reggie’s hand and foot, a dress and professional photos taken of the baby.  The Bell family received this present at the passing of their baby girl and learned that this priceless gift was provided through donations to the hospital. The Bells wanted to do something to thank the staff in labor and delivery at DRMC, and help the hospital continue to provide this gift to other families.

“All the money goes back to the hospital to fund more memory boxes,” Josie Bell said. “The hospital was so good to us. It can be a really hard experience and I am glad a good memory was made in spite of it all.”

The Bells will be excited if the event attracts approximately 100 people. Those who plan to participate are doing so for different reasons.

St. George resident Jolene Hansen is participating in the event because she knows the Bells, she wants to stay active and she wants to provide more donations to the cause.  Hansen plans to walk the 5K with her mom and two sisters.

“I have known Josie for years,” Hansen said. “I am attempting to get ready to run another 5K so I thought I would practice. Also my mom wanted to donate whether we were going to participate or not.”

To register for the event, visit run4reggie.blogspot.com or stop by Essence Hair Salon located at 476 E. River Side Rd. The cost to participate is $15, which includes a T-shirt.
