IVINS – A raffle will be held tonight, Friday, September 30, at Red Mountain Elementary School’s annual carnival, running from from 5 to 8 p.m. to help the family of Josh St. John who was critically injured at work on Tuesday. St. John’s children have variously been or are currently students of the school, which is rallying to assist in the family’s needs.
Each raffle ticket costs $1 and the winner of the raffle will receive an iPAD2. The drawing will be made at the conclusion of the carnival, around 8 p.m. Winner need not be present at the drawing to receive the prize.
“Raffle tickets may be purchased at the carnival, or earlier at the school office until about 4 p.m. or by hailing members of the Parent Teacher Organization involved in setting up for the carnival in the back of the school after 4 p.m.,” said carnival organizer Brandy Doty.
She said that they have worked very fast to put the raffle together and raise funds for the iPAD2 prize, in light of the accident to St. John on Tuesday and the impending school carnival tonight. All raffle proceeds will go to the St. John family to assist with medical expenses.
The school is located at 263 East 200 South in Ivins.
For those going to the carnival solely for the purpose of purchasing raffle tickets, the carnival participation fee will not be required.
According to a blog updated by the family, http://www.teamstjohn.blogspot.com/, the carnival is $6 for unlimited bounce house, lasertag, Play n Trade video games and more. Hungry Howie’s, Ice Box and Fargo’s will be on site vendors. The carnival also includes a silent auction as well as the raffling of the iPad2 to benefit the St. John family.
The raffle was made possible by St. George Steel, Allison’s Pantry and Colleen Willden, and all others who assisted in organizing the event.
St. John, a father of four, was injured due to an equipment malfunction that caused him to fall 20 to 30 feet after being hit by a crane. According to the family’s blog, doctors are working to stabilize his internal injuries. CT scans did not indicate any head or spinal injuries. His family says he has improved greatly since Tuesday. Amy Goeser, a representative of the Red Mountain Parent Teacher Organization said this afternoon that her understanding is that St. John is “critical but stable, seem to be little improvement at this time, not anything huge yet.”
