Christmas in the Canyon returns

IVINS – Tuacahn’s annual Christmas in the Canyon event began last week and continues through Dec. 23.

The events are held at the Tuacahn Amphitheatre, located at 1100 Tuacahn Drive in Ivins. The Christmas in the Canyon festivities are held every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The featured events include the live nativity, holiday hay ride, Santa’s flying wing, kid’s mini-train and Santa, and entertainment in the main plaza.

The live nativity is held in the amphitheatre at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. each night. Admission is $2 per person or $10 per family.

“[The nativity] is presented by volunteer cast of local groups in the community,” said Scott Raine, executive director of marketing and development. “There are anywhere from 40 to 80 volunteers along with live animals, including camels, donkeys and other animals.”

The holiday hay ride costs an additional $2 per person and takes the participants for a tour of the grounds to enjoy the 318,000 holiday lights on display.

Santa’s flying swing is a mechanical swing for children to ride.  The kid’s mini-train is for small children under eight years to enjoy. Both cost an additional $2 per child.

Sitting on Santa’s lap and listening to the entertainment in the plaza is free to the public.
