Jazz come up short in 4 overtime thriller

Utah Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY – The Atlanta Hawks needed four overtimes to end the Utah Jazz’s six-game winning streak, 139-133, Sunday night in Atlanta.

The game tied for the third longest game in NBA history and the longest game since 1997.

All five Jazz starters played more then 50 minutes. Both teams had seven players in double figures and three players each with double-doubles.

The Jazz trailed by 15 at the break but fought back hard in the third quarter to only trail by 1 going into the fourth quarter. The Jazz took their biggest lead of regulation leading by 4 with only five minutes to play.

The two teams only scored 2 points each in the first overtime. In the second OT the teams picked up their offense scoring 13 points each. The third OT each team scored 10 points.

In the last OT, Jazz stars Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap both fouled out giving the Hawks an inside advantage.

Joe Johnson led the way for the Hawks with a game-high 37 points. Josh Smith added 22 points and 10 rebounds while Zaza Pachulia grabbed 20 rebounds and poured in 15 points.

Jefferson and Millsap led the way for the Jazz, scoring 28 points and 25 points, respectively. Jefferson added 17 rebounds while Millsap delivered 13 rebounds.

Gordan Hayward added 19 points for the Jazz with a team-high 57 minutes. C.J. Miles chipped in 17 points while Devin Harris had 11 points with 10 assists.

Derrick Favors helped out with 14 points and Alec Burks chipped in 10 points off the bench.

With the loss, the Jazz fall to 7-17 on the road. The Jazz are still in the playoff race right now in seventh place in the west, just a game-and-a-half-out of fourth place.

The Jazz take on Deron Williams and the Nets tonight in New Jersey and wrap up the three game road trip in Boston on Wednesday.
