Celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day June 2

ST. GEORGE – Cancer survivors and their loved ones in both St. George and Cedar City will gather on Saturday, June 2 for National Cancer Survivors Day Ceremonies. The event in St. George will take place at the Foremaster Auditorium, 1424 Foremaster Drive.  Erik Rupard, MD, will be the keynote speaker and the event will begin at 9 a.m.

Dr. Rupard will speak about some of the myths surrounding cancer and different cancer treatments. His presentation is titled “The First Step to Victory is Knowing Your Enemy.”

“Dr. Rupard has an amazing way of framing the cancer experience in an understandable and meaningful way,” said Deb Christensen, oncology patient navigator at Dixie Regional. “His presentations are sought after and enjoyed by those who know him.”

In Cedar City, the Cancer Survivors Day celebration is titled “The Art of Healing.” It will begin at 10 a.m. at the Sandra L. Maxwell Cancer Center, 1303 N. Main Street. This year’s celebration features the nationally recognized Lilly Oncology on Canvas art exhibit, as well as artwork from local cancer survivors.

“We are very excited for this year’s celebration,” said Cheryl Bellomo, oncology patient navigator at Valley View. “The ‘Lilly Oncology on Canvas’ exhibit is tremendous and we are fortunate to have it available to cancer survivors and their families.”
