Panthers lose game, QB on trip to Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — It was a frustrating night for Pine View Friday as the Panthers were shut out by East 35-0 and also lost their starting quarterback for what could be a long time.

Talented sophomore Kody Wilstead was injured in the first half, breaking his ankle on a running play from the spread offense.

Things started badly for Pine View with early turnovers, then the ghastly injury to the quarterback.

East scored three times in the first quarter on short runs by Ula Tolutau (2 and 9) and Jewka Patetefa (6).

The Panthers held it at 21-0 until late in the third quarter. But East put the game away with a couple of second-half scores. Patetefa scored again in the third quarter and Preston Curtis jammed home a 3-yard run late in the game for the final tally.

Wilstead’s injury, a broken tibia, will require surgery. The sophomore, who also starts on Pine View’s basketball and baseball teams, will be out likely at least eight weeks.

Pine View has Orem next week in Utah County, so the Panthers have little time to lick their proverbial wounds.

What a stupid sport. Basketball and female volleyball are excellent sports which I approve.

What a stupid post. Who cares if you approve of the sport or not?

Really sorry to hear about Kody going down. It is a good thing that Pine View has a bunch of great kids on their roster. I look for the Panthers to bounce back rather quickly. Great coverage by STGNews on all of Region 9 Football Teams!

Members of the coaching staff told that he would need screws put in his ankle. Does that not require surgery to insert screws?
