CEDAR CITY – Holiday travelers through the Yankee Meadows area will have a much smoother ride this year, thanks to Iron County and the Forest Service.

The two have partnered to reconstruct and pave 1.3 miles of Bowery Creek Road (also called Yankee Road and First Left Hand Canyon Road), from Highway 143 to the Vermillion Cliffs Campground, with hopes of improving access to the popular tourist area.

Construction started on Sep. 10 and is expected to run until Nov. 1. The road will be kept open, but drivers should anticipate delays and one-lane traffic.

For more information about the project or updates on access along this road, please contact the Dixie National Forest at (435) 865-3700.
