IRON COUNTY – Fire crews achieved 100 percent containment in the Roundabout Fire Friday.

Fire information officer Mike Melton said fire crews made good progress, leading to full containment. Though 100 percent containment has been reached, Color County Interagency firefighters will continue to mop-up, extinguishing hot spots over the next several days, he said.

The fire reached 2,458 acres in size Wednesday and, despite high winds and steep terrain that posed a challenge to fire crews, the fire did not spread. The fire started Monday afternoon, and is located in the Horse Valley area, 20 miles northwest of Cedar City.

The fire believed to be human-caused and is under investigation.

Road closures for the Kern River Pipeline Road, the Lost Springs Road and the Horse Valley Road remain in effect for the next few days.

The public is reminded that the fire danger continues to be at elevated levels and to use precautions during activities in proximity to dry vegetation in order to prevent starting wildfires.
