ST. GEORGE — Five athletes, three sports and five college scholarships took center stage at Snow Canyon High School Wednesday afternoon.

And while the five athletes were different shapes and sizes, they all had one thing in common: They are Warriors.

Sure, it was a made-for-media event complete with banners, ceremonial pens and flashing camera bulbs. But it was also a momentous occasion for the Snow Canyon program. Brytni Gurney, Autumn Shipp, Amy Harris, Brogan Sechrist and Riley Gates all signed their names to documents assuring them of college sports scholarships.

Gurney and Shipp are softball stars at Snow Canyon who both participated on a Utah Select Team that won gold this past summer. Gurney, who signed to play at the College of Southern Idaho next season, led the Lady Warriors with 20 extra-base hits last season and was also the ace pitcher for Snow Canyon. Shipp, who will compete in the Pac-12 Conference while playing for the University of Utah, is one of the top lead-off hitters in the western United States and has blazing speed.

Harris, who led Snow Canyon to the 3A State Basketball Championship as a junior last season, will take her talents to Brigham Young University. She averaged 17 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists last season.

Gates and Sechrist were key contributors in the Warriors 3A State Baseball Championship last spring. gates, a fireballing left-hander, won seven games for Snow Canyon and also played first base. He signed with BYU and will play for former Dixie State coach Mike Littlewood, who now coaches the Cougars.

Sechrist is a middle-infielder and pitcher for SC and led the team with nine doubles last season. He inked with Western Nevada.

I am so excited for all of you! Knowing most of you since you were little, it doesn’t surprise me that you are taking it to the next level. What a great senior class from SCHS.
