COLORADO CITY, Ariz. – Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff said he hopes an upcoming community meeting will help set the course on what should happen next for the United Effort Plan Trust, which controls most of the homes, businesses and property in the towns of Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, Ariz.

The state took over the trust in 2005, after the Attorney General’s Office brought legal action to protect beneficiaries from several lawsuits. Earlier this month, the 10th Circuit Court ended years of legal disputes over the state’s control of the trust.

The meeting will be held Nov. 30 at the El Capitan Public School in Colorado City. The Utah Attorney General’s Office has invited representatives from the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, Special Fiduciary of the Trust, United States Department of Justice and community members to participate in the meeting. Audience members will be able to ask questions and make comments.

“This is an opportunity for everyone who has a stake in the trust to get firsthand information and provide input,” Shurtleff said.

Information from the meeting will be provided to Third District Judge Denise Lindberg, who will ultimately determine the fate of the trust. A live broadcast of the meeting will also be available online.
