Rowdy’s Range offers free concealed carry permit, threat assessment classes to educators

ST. GEORGE – The first line of defense of persons working with the public is their ability to determine behavior. From harmless to threatening, humans have certain signals that may indicate different levels of escalation.

Rowdy’s Range, a shooting range and gun supply store in St. George, is offering a four-hour class for local educators and school faculty to develop skills in identifying nonverbal signals of escalation and how to engage those who may be threatening. The class will be facilitated by Eric Young, assistant professor of communication at Dixie State College of Utah.

Young has been teaching human and mass communication since 1998 and has a background in nonverbal assessment in interrogation and negotiation. He recently founded Stand With Them, a grass-roots movement that provides Southern Utah schools with support in protecting students.

The class is scheduled for Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. at Rowdy’s Range. It is free for teachers and faculty in both K-12 and higher education. Seating is limited and can be reserved by calling Colby Seegmiller at 435-275-2550.

Subsequent classes will be taught to address other public contexts including banking, public service and the service industry. Rowdy’s Range is also offering free concealed carry permit classes to any educator during the month of January; 40 teachers have already signed up.
