MESQUITE, Nev. – This Friday and Saturday the Mesquite Resort Association, Nitro Circus, the Eureka Casino, and Edge Power Sports are joining forces to bring the southern Nevada and southern Utah area the Mesquite Off-Road Weekend. Events will include the Nitro Enduro Challenge, an attempt at a world record jump by Tanner Godfrey, a VIP party, and over 80 vendor booths.

After his crash in a 2007 event left him in a hospital bed with doctors incredulous at his recovery, Tanner Godfrey quickly set down the trail to recovery. Now, after a few short years, not only has he made tremendous progress towards recovery, but he is attempting a world record jump in a UTV. Fitted with modified controls, the Arctic Cat UTV will carry Tanner Godfrey through his 120-foot jump. Upon completion, this jump will shatter the current record of 47 feet. The event is scheduled for Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Eureka Resort Casino.

“I exploded my vertebrae and dislocated my spine and it left me paralyzed from the chest down,” Tanner Godfrey said. “I use a driving stick that looks like a modified cane to hit the gas and the brake.”

Gavin Godfrey, 18, Tanner’s brother, is not only racing in the pro event, but is also the rider in the viral video advertising the event shown here:

“It will definitely be entertaining,” Gavin Godfrey said. “It’s going to be hectic; it’s going to be awesome.”

Saturday’s events will combine motocross, endurocross, and trial bike riders in an all-out race. Riders will have the option to avoid difficult obstacles by performing trick jumps as an alternative. This will be great for audience members, as the action is constantly changing.

“There will be some of the nation’s best racers and riders from all over the country.”  Andre Carier said. “We really have a broad field of riders. This is the first time ever for an event to combine a free-style motocross show in an actual race.”

The event will have open, outdoor seating, so attendants are encouraged to prepare for whatever the weather may bring, wear comfortable shoes you don’t mind getting dusty, and be ready for a day full of amazing riders and tricks.

This is a terrible idea of epic proportions. Hopefully Tanner makes it out alive and in one piece.
