Dixie State library receives grant for preserving historical photography collection

ST. GEORGE – Dixie State University has been awarded a project grant from the Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board as part of the State and National Archival Partnership Grant Program.

The grant will be used to fund the care, organization and display of the Murdock Aerial Photography Collection, a gallery of images that document the history of growth in Washington County from a unique aerial perspective. The funds will allow for the housing of this spectacular collection and the creation of a guide to assist the public and other researchers in viewing and utilizing the collection.

Local repositories like DSU’s library play a vital role in preserving historical records at a regional level and providing public access to those records.

“Because of this grant program, our library will be better prepared to fulfill its role in preserving Utah’s historical records as a regional repository for Washington County,” said Amber D’Ambrosio, DSU special collections librarian.

Funding for this grant program is provided by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.

DSU officials anticipate that the collection will be available for the public to view in July. It will be housed in the DSU library inside the Holland Centennial Commons.
