18th Annual Washington County Water Fair at Dixie State

ST. GEORGEWashington County Water Conservancy District presents the 18th Annual Washington County Water Fair on Wednesday and Thursday, May 8-9. Over 1,900 fourth graders from all over Washington County will converge on the campus of Dixie State University to participate in activities and classes about the importance of water in our community and the care of this limited, unpredictable natural resource.

Thirty-three presenters both local and statewide will come together to teach topics such as: Weather Wonders, Water Rights in Utah, Color Me A Watershed, Macro Mayhem and Sparkling Water.

“It is all about learning how important water is for us and everything around us,” said Julie Breckenridge, event coordinator and Water Conservation Manager for Washington County Water Conservancy District. “It’s great to see children grasp the need to protect and conserve it.”

A Water Jeopardy Game is also part of the experience. Classes receive general and local water information weeks prior to the fair. The teachers prep them about the water cycle, our reservoirs, and our watershed. Then classes compete against other with that knowledge. Additional sponsors for this event include cities and towns of Washington County, Dixie State University, and Scholzen’s Products. Albertsons, Costco Wholesale, Harmons, Kmart, Lin’s, and Walmart have also contributed to make this a successful educational event.
