ST. GEORGE – A garage fire caused a home to be evacuated in the Bloomington area late Wednesday morning.
The home is located at 3205 Three Bars Road and is owned by Billie Poet and her husband. Poet said that that her husband had gone to the garage around 8:30 a.m. to let the chickens out – before the fire began – and saw nothing out of the ordinary. It is suspected that the fire began sometime before 11:15 a.m., as neighbors called it in to 911 at that time.
“I saw the flames,” neighbor Caroline Gonzalez said. “A neighbor ran over there with a hose to try and put it out.”
Gonzalez said she helped Poet evacuate. Poet’s husband was not present at the time of the fire. The only other occupant of the home was the couple’s cat, who Poet said she thought had left the area safely.
The fire was almost extinguished by noon. According to firefighters on scene, it was too early to determine the cause of the fire or extent of the damage to the garage and attached structure, which were separate from the home. The home itself was unharmed.

First hot weather in a garage could easily spark spontaneous combustion of oily rags and other such trash. Or else last night’s BBQ coals that weren’t totally out when put in trash.
That sounds like a shot in the dark possibility. What’s really happening is…… The mice, rats and critters in these older garages have picked up drug habits such as smoking meth and whatnot. After a big hit on their pipes they pass out and fall off their little thimble chairs and the hot pipe catches old McDonald and Marlboro wrappers on fire. And poof, the whole place is up in flames.
But really, I don’t think big don was looking for an answer. Just kind of wondering out loud.
What the devil is with all these garage fires recently?
