Municipal Elections 2013: Candidates for Southern Utah

SOUTHERN UTAH – Declarations of candidacy for public office in Southern Utah’s municipal election have been filed. Each municipality has the offfices of mayor and two city/town council positions open for election.

The candidate filing period ended June 7. However, write-in candidates are still permitted until Sept. 6, 60 days before the general election.

Primary elections are scheduled for Aug. 13, though not all municipalities will hold them depending upon the number of candidates running. Per state law, a municipality must hold a primary election if the number of candidates exceeds double the number of open positions.

Will you be covering the first Candidate Forum for St. George next Tuesday at the Dixie Republican Forum Luncheon?

The prospect of Bryan Hyde as mayor of Cedar is frightening to me as a resident and business owner.

The DRF is charging folks $14 to attend the Candidate Forum as you cannot attend if you don’t pay for lunch, this doesn’t seem very open and public.

The St. George Mayor race should be fun to observe. I’m voting for McArthur. McArthur’s excessive terms in office are far preferred over Pike’s inside and backside dealing with city issues like Dixie Ambulance. If you want someone who will mix and trade his position for personal gain…then Pike is your man.

Before I make my decision I need to see a singing contest followed by a poetry recital duel and “then” I could probably make a decision. Other than those two items, what else is there to base my choice on?
