Hurricane Choir announces Christmas concert

HURRICANE – The Hurricane Valley Choir will present their annual Christmas concert Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Hurricane Community Center auditorium located at 93 South 100 West. Admission is free.

Choral selections will include a variety of Christmas music, including “Deck the Halls,” “Everywhere Christmas Tonight,” “Ding Dong Merrily On High,” and “Echo Christmas Joy.” A fun arrangement of “Jingle Bells” combines the traditional words with music from the “Nutcracker Suite.” The women of the choir will sing an exhilerating carol set to a familiar Ukrainian folk tune while the men will entertain the audience with a lively spiritual “Way Down in Bethlehem.”

As the choir performs a wonderful combined arrangement of “He Is Born” and “Pat-a-Pan,” Holli Eves and the David Randall family will join in with accompaniment on the flute and drum. Included in the program are “In Bethlehem,” which adds rhythm percussion to create an interesting carol, and John Rutter’s “I Wish You Christmas.”

The choir ends with a climactic arrangement of “Angels We Have Heard on High.”

Solos and small numbers will be added by members of the choir, adding to the variety of the evening. The concert will be time well spent by families during the holiday season to bring the joy of music.

The Hurricane Choir was formed in October 2007 by the Hurricane Valley Arts Alliance to offer opportunity for area singers, aging from high school to adult, to participate in a community choir. The choir was originally directed by Warren Larsen, but changed directors when Larsen moved out of the area. June Jeffery, a member of the choir, will conduct this concert. Camille McCausland is the choir director and accompanist.
