CEDAR CITY – A $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the man who robbed a Wells Fargo Bank in Cedar City last week.
Wells Fargo Bank at 797 South Main St. was robbed on Jan. 4 when a man entered the back and handed a teller a note demanding money. The man was given an undisclosed amount and departed on foot. Police were unable to locate the suspect and the investigation is ongoing.
A reward has been offered by Wells Fargo and the Utah Bankers Association, which released the following statement:
Wells Fargo, in conjunction with the Utah Bankers Association, is offering up to a $10,000 reward for original information leading to the identification, apprehension, and conviction of the person(s) involved in the robbery of the Wells Fargo bank located at 797 South Main Street, Cedar City, Utah 84720 on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at 2:04 p.m.
“Police hope the reward will be incentive for anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation,” the Cedar City Police said in a statement regarding the reward.
Cedar City Police Department is currently investigating a potential connection between the Wells Fargo robbery and the robbery of a Mountain America Credit Union that occurred February 2013.
“While we can’t say for sure that they are the same suspect, it is something that we are investigating,” the police said in the statement.
The suspect in this case is described as being a white male in his 60s with gray hair. He was last seen wearing a dark colored over-sized coat, a tan hat and blue jeans. He is also described as being between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall.

The Duffel Bag Bandit
At one time the FBI connected the Mountain America Credit Union robbery to a suspect called the “Duffel Bag Bandit” which the bureau believed was potentially responsible for six bank robberies in Idaho and Southern Utah in 2012.
Gerald Edward Massey, 56, of Boise Idaho, was arrested in August 2013 in Louisiana where he was living at the time. He was charged with one count of bank robbery and faces up to 20 years in prison for the March 2013 robbery of a Boise, Idaho, branch of U.S. Bank, according the FBI’s Salt Lake City Office.
Though he has been charged with one count of bank robbery as a part of a plea deal, the FBI noted he will be paying restitution “equal to the loss caused to U.S. Bank and the loss caused to the victims of three additional bank robberies not charged.”

I don’t understand how the old timers keep robbing banks. Everytime I am in a bank I pray that it gets robbed so I can catch the guy. Yes, I will prob catch a charge or two myself for chasing the perp down,but its what I live for!

I am a customer at wells fargo in springville utah, I was under the impression from my banker Israel that 100 dollars from my savings was to be transferred to my checking monthly. I decided to stop this I called the 1-800 # so i could cancel this transaction. apparently it was never there, but a $100.00 came out of my savings account every month. After talking to this bank representative she brought to my attention that $100.00 was coming out of my checking into my savings and she gave me my confirmation #135394486 what a surprise. where did it go, the money! I noticed charges were going through more then once, my balance kept getting smaller. I tried to call Israel my representative here in springville . after calling him 3 times he is still not in. but got lucky on the 4 time, got through to the bank manager, israel is out with tonsils for a few weeks. so I decided to go to the branch in east bay, talked to another representative by the name of Travis Thatcher he said if u can bring to me the double charges we will look at them. we dont have the time to do it ourself we have a million customer. I thought I was one of them my total deposit $87,500.00 and guess what I am one of those one million customers, can you give me accounting of all the double charges that havent been removed. who is getting robbed? please forward to Gepthardt channel news.
