ST. GEORGE – The 27th Sears Dixie Invitational Art Show and Sale, recognized as one of the biggest art events in Utah, begins Feb. 15 at the Sears Art Museum Gallery on the Dixie State University campus.
The show will feature more than 200 works of art from 120 renowned artists from across the United States. Award categories include oils, watercolor, pastels and other media, including several bronze and ceramic pieces.
“In our 27th year of the Invitational, we celebrate the return of many of the original artists, as well as (welcoming) five new artists who will be making their show debut,” Sears Art Museum Gallery curator Kathy Cieslewicz said. “Over the years artists come and go, but the overall quality and excitement of the show never fails.”
Events will begin on Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. in the Eccles Fine Arts Center Concert Hall with a free art symposium for all interested artists, conducted by 2013 Purchase Prize and Best of Show winner Annette Everett, who won with her bronze creation entitled “The World is Mine.” Everett’s dual award-winning effort marked just the third time in the show’s history that an artist swept both honors.
The show’s preview and opening reception will follow the symposium beginning at 4 p.m., while the opening gala and pre-sale will start at 6 p.m. at the Eccles Center. Tickets for the gala may be purchased by calling the DSU Institutional Advancement Office at 435-652-7536. The program for the evening includes dinner and remarks by the show’s honorary chairs, Terry Marten and Matt Marten, and entertainment provided by soprano Laura Snow and pianist Christopher Giles.
The gallery of exhibtion works opens to the public Feb. 15 and will remain on display through March 30. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 2-6 p.m. on Sunday.
