The Washington County School District Foundation aims to help these students realize their dreams by supporting the Sterling Scholar program, which awards students for academic excellence.

The foundation awards $200 each to students who compete in 15 different categories: Agricultural science, family and consumer sciences, skilled & tech sciences, business and marketing, social science, general scholarship, computer technology, mathematics, speech and drama, dance, music, visual arts, English, science and world languages.

A potential Sterling Scholar presents an all-encompassing portfolio in one of the above categories, and is interviewed by judges in the category’s field. Sterling Scholar winners are selected at the high school level, recognized at the awards program and then go on to compete on a regional level. From the six high schools in Washington County, a total of 90 winners will be chosen. Each of the six schools has one winner from each of the 15 categories.

“The foundation is pleased to publicly recognize and award our high school Sterling Scholar winners for this year. They have demonstrated their pursuit of excellence in scholarship, leadership and citizenship in the communities (in which) they live,” director Pam Graf said. “They have set goals early in their education to pursue a better education and we honor them for tenacity and hard work.”

A complete list of winners can be found here.

On Thursday, the winners, along with their families and friends, will celebrate an evening of awards and recognition at Snow Canyon High School. If they go on to win at the regional level, the Washington County School District Foundation offers an additional $300 each. That competition will be held on April 3 at Dixie State University.

Thanks are extended to the community and their ongoing support of high school seniors in recognizing their hard work. They are our future, and by supporting this program we are truly supporting and securing a prosperous and fulfilling future not just for these students, but our community at large. Without the backing of the community and the generous support of the Washington County School District Foundation, these students would not be given the opportunity to go above and beyond in their dedication to learning and accomplishing their future educational goals.
