FLDS leader Warren Jeffs sent to hospital for medical treatment

ST. GEORGE – Fundamentalist Mormon sect leader Warren Jeffs was transferred to a hospital in Galveston, Texas, earlier this month while serving time in prison.

Jeffs, 58, the imprisoned prophet-leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was taken to the hospital March 11 for treatment of a non-life threatening medical condition, Robert Hurst, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirmed Monday via an emailed statement. Jeffs is reported to be in stable condition.

This is not Jeffs’s first visit to a hospital while serving time in prison. According to The Salt Lake Tribune, he was taken to a hospital in 2011 after becoming sick while fasting.

Jeffs is currently serving a life sentence in Texas for two felony counts of sexual assault of a minor. The charges stem from Jeffs’s involvement with two minors he took as spiritual wives.

Unlike mainstream Mormonism, which abandoned polygamy in the 1890s, particular groups broke away from the church in order to continue the practice, the FLDS church being among them.

Jeffs will be eligible for parole in 2038.

Does it bother anyone that hard working people can’t afford to go to the hospital – but our taxes can pay for criminals to do so?

Like suicide watch for a criminal on death row for the 20th year……

When he got sick from fasting, they should have just let him be sick. It’s his right to fast, and also his right to get sick and die from it. Hasn’t this fool wasted enough resources?
