Bennett, janet, O obit(February 7, 1931 – April 16, 2014)

Janet Draper Bennett returned home after an 83 years absence. She passed peacefully Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Santa Clara, Utah. She was born February 7, 1931 in Cedar City, Utah to Don William Draper and Carol Richards.

Janet graduated from Cedar City high school where she was involved in choir, school clubs, and was a cheerleader in her senior year. She met and married her husband, Douglas Bennett, while attending Brigham Young University. After Doug graduated, they moved to Southern California where she finished her associate degree then continued working on a degree at California State University-Long Beach. After retirement they moved to Santa Clara, Utah, where she was close to Cedar Mountain, which she loved.

Bennett, Janet Y ObitJanet earned her pilot license in her late 30’s. She loved to fly and drive anything that moved, from an eighteen-wheeler to her ATV and snowmobile. She learned to fish from her dad, who was an avid outdoorsman. After moving to Utah she was an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple for several years.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas R. Bennett of Santa Clara; her three children, Kent L Bennett (Pabby) of Nevada City, CA, LeeAnn Goodwill (Mark) of Las Vegas, NV, Randy D Bennett (Laura) of Long Beach, CA; and 7 grandchildren, all of which had the opportunity to say their goodbyes. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Maxine Webb.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dixie Regional Medical Center, Coral Desert Rehab and Dixie Hospice and all of their staff.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Santa Clara 8th Ward Chapel, 3680 Pioneer Pkwy, Santa Clara, UT.
  • There will be a viewing Friday evening from 6-7 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff, St. George and also on Saturday from 9-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the chapel.
  • Interment will take place in the Cedar City Cemetery, Cedar City, Utah following the services at 3:30 p.m.
