IVINS – The Community Foundation of Utah has recognized two Southern Utahns among 50 individuals in the state who make a measurable – but often unsung – difference in the lives of Utahns.
Judith Kapuscinski, chair of the Kayenta Arts Foundation, and Kent Harrison Hayes, co-artistic director of the Kayenta Arts Foundation, will both be honored at a ceremony in Salt Lake City Wednesday. They are being recognized among a group of Utahns known as the “Enlightened 50,” or E-50. Honorees are nominated by the public and include recognized business and religious leaders, entrepreneurs, notable people in the world of academia, community volunteers, journalists, leaders of nonprofits and elected officials who:
- Pioneer innovative and sustainable approaches to the critical issues facing Utah
- Demonstrate a commitment to community engagement
- Make a profound mark on Utah’s quality of life
- Value collaboration, entrepreneurship and creativity
“We are so pleased to have two local residents as members of the E-50,” Garry Morris, co-artistic director of the Kayenta Arts Foundation, said. “Southern Utah has a relatively small percentage of the state’s population, so it’s truly an honor for Kayenta Arts Foundation to represent our greater community at large. The Kayenta Arts Foundation Board couldn’t be more proud.”
Kayenta Arts Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating an environment that fosters diverse artistic endeavors for educational and enrichment purposes. The nonprofit was founded in 2011 and is currently in the process of building Kayenta Center for the Arts, a new 144-seat arts complex located in the Kayenta community of Ivins.
Kapuscinski has served as Kayenta Arts Foundation chair since the foundation’s inception. As a health care compliance consultant and attorney, she works primarily with nonprofit entities, assisting them with understanding and operating within legal and ethical parameters. Moving to Utah in 2008, Kapuscinski welcomed the opportunity to support the visual and performing arts through the Kayenta Arts Foundation.
Hayes has more than 30 years of administration, management, marketing and public relations experience in the entertainment industry. For 25 years, he served as president of a Los Angeles-based post-production facility. He has served on various boards, including the World Airline Entertainment Association, where he was the recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
In 2001, Hayes, along with a partner, founded Man of Two Worlds LLC, an arts and entertainment development company. Since 2008, the company has produced a number of theatrical productions in Southern Utah. Hayes is also a professional actor and musician and has performed on stage and in TV and film.
