CEDAR CITY — Through the Secure Rural Schools Act, the Dixie National Forest has authority to use a Resource Advisory Committees as a mechanism for local community collaboration in recommending projects on federal lands or that benefit resources on federal lands. Applications to participate as members on the committee are now being accepted.
Dixie National Forest’s previously scheduled 3-day meeting to analyze project proposals has been canceled as to July 8 and July 9 in consideration of the recent finalization of the Title II budget for this year. The July 10 meeting remains and all business will be conducted during that meeting.
The positions the U.S. Forest Service seeks to fill for the Dixie Resource Advisory Committee are in its categories A, B, and C. The RAC consists of 15 members and three replacement members representing a wide range of interests.
There are currently five vacant positions and three replacement positions for which the Dixie RAC is seeking new members. To apply:
- Retrieve an application form (AD 755) online at the Agriculture Departments special projects Web page linked here, or from any local Forest Service office.
- Application forms in hard copy only must be received by 5 p.m. on Aug. 15 at the Dixie National Forest office, ATTN: Janice Minarik, RAC Coordinator, 1789 North Wedgewood Lane, Cedar City, Utah 84721.
The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture will make the appointments to the RAC based on the applications received, striving to appoint a diverse membership. Special attention will be given to those who have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with others of different viewpoints.
