CEDAR CITY – Traffic was halted on Interstate 15 Tuesday afternoon when a semitrailer carrying a load of cosmetics caught fire near milepost 64.
“The freeway was closed for some time due to visibility,” Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said. “A lot of smoke coming out.”
Around 2 p.m., the semitrailer was traveling southbound on I-15 when it caught fire. The driver of the semi pulled over and was able to detach the trailer, Royce said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The southbound side of the freeway was closed for about 20 minutes due to visibility issues caused by smoke from the fire, Royce said. Responding fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze, and as of 4:15 p.m. southbound traffic was flowing again and a wrecker had been called to pick up the trailer.
No injuries were reported from the incident. Royce said it is unknown at this time whether the trailer and its cargo were a total loss.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by the authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.
Updated 6:30 p.m.: Fire listed as occurring Wednesday corrected to Tuesday, June 8.

It was an error, Heather. It happened Tuesday and was corrected in short order. I appreciate your catching it. 🙂
Wow. It’s just a typo. I appreciate that we can get news in such a quick fashion. No need to burst a blood vessel over a simple, commonly made, mistake. They’ll catch it with subsequent updates of the story.
