ST. GEORGE – A woman was transported to the hospital Tuesday after the car she was riding in was struck by a truck on Main Street in St. George.
At approximately 1:42 p.m., the St. George Communications Center received a report of the accident, which involved a white GMC Sierra truck and a Nissan Altima.
The truck had just turned right out of Temple View RV Park, 975 S. Main St., traveling north. The driver realized she was traveling the wrong direction for her destination, started to make a U-turn and crashed into the Nissan, St. George Police Officer Jeremy Needles said. The driver’s side front bumper of the truck smashed into the passenger-side doors of the Nissan.
“She looked right, looked left and didn’t see the other car,” Needles said. “In the process of doing the U-turn, she hit the other vehicle.”
Traffic in the northbound and southbound lanes of Main Street was slowed as a result of the accident.
The St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.
A citation will be issued to the driver of the truck for failure to yield, Needles said.
The passenger of the Nissan was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening; she was complaining of neck pain, he said.
