Fire crews save home in Mesquite

MESQUITE, Nevada – A structure fire in Mesquite drew responses from multiple fire departments Monday as an outside fire threatened to consume a residence.

According to a news release from Mesquite Fire and Rescue, the fire department was alerted around 5 p.m. Monday to a fire in the area of Foxglove Lane and Mimosa Way. Arriving crews reported a fire on the outside of the home and along the roof line. They also saw smoke coming from the attic on all four sides of the home.

The outside fire was quickly knocked down and was located in a dog run along the side of the house. Two large rottweilers found in the dog run were safely removed from the scene by Mesquite Animal Control for the duration of the incident.

The outdoor fire had extended inside into the home’s kitchen area. Firefighters put out that portion of the fire as well and then checked the attic with thermal imaging to determine if the flames had gone into the attic. The fire did not reach that far, according to the news release.

Fire units from Bunkerville, Nevada, and Beaver Dam, Arizona, also responded to the scene.

My crews did an outstanding job keeping the fire from getting any worse and saving the home for this family,” Mesquite Fire Chief Kash Christopher said in the news release. “We also appreciate the tremendous assistance our friends from the Beaver Dam and Bunkerville Fire Departments. They played key roles in allowing us to keep this fire in check.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the results of that are still pending. The fire appears to have started on the outside of the home and went inside through an open window and up into the roof through the normal rising of heat.

No injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
