15-year-old boy injured in auto-pedestrian accident

MESQUITE, Nevada – A 15-year-old boy was taken to the hospital Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle on Riverside Road in Mesquite, Nevada.

Mesquite Police officers responded to the scene at about 3:40 p.m., where a teenager had attempted to run across Riverside Road and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The incident occurred in an area where there are no traffic control devices or marked crosswalks, according to a press release from the Mesquite Police Department.

After completing a traffic accident investigation and collecting witness statements at the scene, officers determined the teen had failed to yield the right-of-way to the oncoming vehicle.

“Unfortunately the pedestrian did not see the vehicle as it approached and was hit when he ran in front of it,” the press release said.

Mesquite Fire and Rescue transported the teen to Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, according to the press release.

According to Nevada law, pedestrians are allowed to cross roadways at marked crosswalks or intersections that have official traffic control devices. It is important for pedestrians to use the marked crosswalks and controlled intersections that are available to them, the press release said, as well as look both ways for oncoming traffic before crossing a roadway.

“This was an unfortunate accident, and we wish all those involved a speedy recovery,” the press release said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Perhaps, since this kid was not seriously injured, it was a FORTUNATE accident! Particularly if it taught him anything. Hopefully both the pedestrian and the driver learned something from it.

Agreed Evil, hopefully they both learned something. However the teen should have taken a taxi to the hospital. Ambulance ride around $700, taxi around $15.
