ST. GEORGE — Dixie State University announced Thursday that its nursing program received a $100,000 contribution from Intermountain Healthcare to create a scholarship initiative for diversity in nursing. The contribution, in partnership with Intermountain’s human resources and nursing departments, will support the promotion of diversity in the health care workforce.

This is a wonderful gift that will provide us with the opportunity to increase student diversity in our program,” said Dr. Carole Grady, dean of the School of Health Sciences at DSU.

Dixie State and Intermountain, through Dixie Regional Medical Center, have enjoyed a long-standing partnership. In 2008, DSU opened the Russell C. Taylor Health Sciences Center on the Dixie Regional Medical Center campus, which houses all of the university’s health science academic programs, and serves as a training facility for the medical center.

Dixie State University is deeply appreciative of the generous support we are receiving from Intermountain Healthcare,” DSU President Dr. Richard B. Williams said. “We are grateful to have such a tremendous relationship with Intermountain and we are excited to partner with them to help prepare our nursing students to enter the workforce to serve our community and beyond.”

“Leaders recognize the connection between a diverse nursing workforce and the ability to provide high quality care to meet a variety of patient needs in our communities,” said Mikelle Moore, vice president of community benefit for Intermountain Healthcare. “We are excited to support Dixie State University’s nursing program in this important work that will benefit the nursing students and also the many patients they will serve throughout their careers.”

Intermountain Healthcare is a not-for-profit health system based in Salt Lake City. Dixie Regional Medical Center is part of Intermountain, which is recognized for its excellent clinical care and low costs and its mission to help people live the healthiest lives possible.
