An associate professor in the department of plant and wildlife science at Brigham Young University, Udall works on gene expression of cotton and cotton genomics.

Currently, Udall is creating optical maps of the diploid and polyploid cotton genomes. He began his work in cotton at Iowa State University as a postdoctoral student with Jonathan Wendel. Together, they created custom micorarrays to investigate gene expression bias of tetraploid cotton.

Udall grew up in Utah, earned a Bachelor’s degree from BYU, a Master’s in plant sciences from the University of Idaho, and a Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he created two DH haploid maps of Brassica napus using RFLP markers.
