ST. GEORGE – A fire ripped through a St. George home Thursday morning, displacing a large family and causing $25,000 worth of damage.
The blaze, which appeared to have started in a dryer in the single-level home located at 57 N. 1210 West just after 7 a.m., quickly spread throughout the residence, St. George Fire Captain Rob Hooper said.
“Originally it was reported that the fire was just isolated to the dryer,” Hooper said, but by the time fire crews arrived, there were “flames shooting out of the house,” he said.
“First engine arrived on scene (and) found smoke and flames showing from all doors and the garage,” Hooper said.
Five engines and 25 firefighters were on scene to battle the blaze, he said, which was contained and put out in approximately 20 minutes.
Hooper said there were 6 or 7 occupants in the house at the time and the Red Cross was called out and arrived on scene to provide assistance for them.
“A few of them had smoke inhalation,” Hooper said, “and then one – the daughter – was treated and released on scene; she had asthma and she had a little hard time breathing.”
The damage to the home is estimated at around $25,000, he said.
The exact cause of the fire is “still under investigation,” Hooper said, “but it did look like it started within the dryer itself.”
This report is based on preliminary information provided by authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Flames shooting out everywhere and only $25,000 damage?
Hardly.
Laytonian, Now that is exactly what I was thinking! maybe $250,000, that sounds more reasonable. crazy, hope they had insurance and glad everyone was safe. very sad indeed.
I think we were looking at a ‘stock’ photo…Was the fire in the dryer, dryer vent or both, I wonder.
Holy smoke! That sucks! Reminds me when I buy a house, fire insurance!
could of been ignited by a burning bosom?
Fun bag or who ever you are this is a sad serious situation. You can stop it already with the stupid comments. You only make yourself look bad. My best wishes and thoughts to the people who had the fire.
