ST. GEORGE — Fire managers are planning to burn piles from road thinning work near Mt. Trumbull on the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, 65 miles south of St. George, starting the end of April and lasting through mid-May.
Smoke may be present and emissions will be managed in accordance with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality regulations.
There are no road or trail closures anticipated.
Public access to the burn areas may be restricted during ignition to ensure public safety. Signs will be posted near the areas to be burned as the public must use caution when traveling in the area of the burn piles.
The burns are intended to decrease future wildfire risk and protect cultural and natural resources.
Burns must meet strict weather-related and environmental factors prior to ignition. Planned burns are subject to viable weather and fuel conditions.
Fire staff for the Bureau of Land Management Arizona Strip Field Office will monitor on-site weather and fuel conditions and manage prescribed fire activity, before, during and after ignition operations.
