CEDAR CITY – The Cedar City Police Department announced Friday that one if its K-9s, a dog named VooDoo, died Friday.

VooDoo, an 11-year-old German shepherd, died “as a result of health issues,” a Facebook post from the CCPD said.

VooDoo was partnered with Officer Clint Pollock in April 2011, and the two participated in the Las Vegas K-9 trials that same year, where VooDoo took second place in handler protection.

Pollock and his family were with the dog when it died.

The Facebook post said:

VooDoo lived with Officer Pollock’s family, who cared and loved him everyday. VooDoo was one of the friendliest (and occasionally ferocious) crime-fighting police K9’s for the Cedar City Police Department. VooDoo assisted several agencies in Southern Utah to take criminals and illegal drugs off the streets.

VooDoo was an asset to the Police Department and to Iron County, the post said, doing “an amazing job” when called upon to find a suspect or sniff out illegal narcotics. VooDoo was also known for his good temperament.

“He was admired by many through his social & loveable behavior with all the children involved in the yearly Red Ribbon Week, Scout Expo, and all the other events, in which he participated,” the Facebook post said.

At the time of his death, VooDoo was scheduled to officially retire from police service.

Pollock is in the process of training the Police Department’s newest K-9 a dog named Duco.
