VIRGIN — Lightning from recent storms in Southern Utah hit Smith’s Mesa near Virgin Tuesday, starting a brush fire that burned about a quarter-acre of land.

Responders from the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service responded to reports of the fire at about 1:45 p.m., Tom Green, a BLM employee, said.

The fire was under control as of 7 p.m. Tuesday, Green said, but responders are still on scene monitoring the situation.

The flames were completely contained to BLM land, Green said, and there doesn’t seem to be any danger to private property.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
