LEEDS — Leeds Area Fire Department responded to a snapped power pole on state Road 228, just north of the town of Leeds, Wednesday afternoon.
Fire Chief Steve Lewis responded when strong winds broke a power pole off at the base.
The pole did not fall all the way down, however, so the power lines remained intact and no one’s power seems to have been affected, Lewis said.
For a while, there was a danger the pole would fall completely, so responders blocked off the northbound lane of traffic on the road, but as of 7:30 p.m., it appeared the pole would not come down, as Rocky Mountain Power employees were out fixing the pole.
If the power pole had fallen all the way down, it could have meant power outages for much of the town, and it would have possibly blocked traffic temporarily on state Road 228.
While one lane of traffic was blocked, it did not cause any traffic backup, as the road is not used heavily.
No one should see a loss of power over the course of the repairs, Lewis said.
