Register your cellphone to receive Washington County emergency alerts

WASHINGTON COUNTY – The Everbridge Emergency Alert System is used in Washington County to quickly provide emergency information and important alerts to the community. However, with many people now using cellphones as their primary phone, it’s important to remember, unlike landlines, cellphones need to be registered to receive those alerts.

In an emergency the ability to receive information and warnings can mean the difference between life and death.

The Everbridge system allows emergency managers to contact residents by text, phone or email to send out critical information to multiple residents and locations, quickly allowing for the rapid dissemination of alerts, evacuations and other emergency messages.

The system uses existing landline phone data to allow for contact so, if you are using a cellphone or computer based VOIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol system, you may not be included in the data base.

However, you can register your cellphone or VOIP based phone with your address to allow you to receive messages on the system that will help keep you informed of emergencies happening in your neighborhood.

Registering your cellphone is easy and can be done online at 911register.com.

The free, Everbridge Member app can now also be installed on most cellphone devices.
