A nationwide recall was made voluntarily and in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration. It pertains to 8.4-ounce bottles of Gold Medal Sparkling Cider, Sparkling Cider Northwest Blend, Sparkling White Grape and Sparkling Red Grape is underway. The containers, which are commonly known as “mini-bottles,” have a “Best Before” date of after March 1, 2018, but before September 12, 2018, on the front label.

The voluntary recall was announced by Watsonville, California-based S. Martinelli and Company after internal testing showed the potential for some bottles to chip when opened, possibly sending small glass chips into the bottle.

In a press release announcing the recall, Martinelli’s said “(the) recall is being done out of an abundance of caution,” adding the company is “committed to ensuring the quality and safety of all our products.”

The recall is for the small mini-bottles only. No other size of bottles, including the 750 milliliter and 10 ounce bottles, are affected in this recall.

Purchases of the affected product may be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Any questions regarding this recall should be directed to Martinelli’s 24-hour consumer line. The phone number is 1-800-662-1868.
