Bomb threat called in to Dixie Regional Medical Center

ST. GEORGE – Police were on high alert Monday after a bomb threat was called in to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.

The bomb threat was called in to the Dixie Regional Medical Center 400 East Campus by a female caller who claimed she had an explosive and that there was going to be an explosion, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said.

Authorities were able to determine the woman was calling from Mesquite, Nevada.

“We were able to figure out who this caller was and were able to determine she was living in Mesquite,” Despain said. “It was clear that she was suffering from some type of mental illness.”

Because of the vagueness of the information the caller was providing, Despain said, including no specified type of explosive or a specified location, police chose not to evacuate the hospital.

However, police did an extensive canvas and search of the area and found no indication of any type of explosive device, Despain said.

Mesquite Police were able to locate and speak with the caller, Despain said, adding that the St. George Police Department is working with the Washington County Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.
