Arrest warrant issues for 63-year-old woman making hospital bomb threat

ST. GEORGE – An arrest warrant has been issued for a Mesquite, Nevada, woman who called in a bomb threat to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George Monday. The woman will now face two second-degree felony charges of making a false alarm.

The bomb threat was called in to the hospital’s 400 East Campus and River Road Campus by 63-year-old Wendy Ballantyne Stone, according to an affidavit filed by the St. George Police Department in support of the arrest.

Stone allegedly began making the calls around 10:30 a.m. to the 400 East Campus.

“ … (She) called in making statements of bombs going off, and you better ‘get the F out of there, I’ve got a bomb I’ll blow the place up,’” the charging officer wrote in the court affidavit. “She also made the statement ‘Jihad, F— You.’”

The River Road campus was also receiving phone calls from Stone who allegedly told employees she was tired of being put on hold with their phone system, according to court documents.

“She made comments about having oxygen and a lighter and she will blow the place up,” the charging officer wrote. “She also stated that she’s going to blow up the parking lot and contaminate the water.”

Because of the vagueness of the information Stone was providing, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said, including no specified type of explosive or a specified location, police chose not to evacuate the hospital.

However, police did an extensive canvass and search of the area and found no indication of any type of explosive device, Despain said.

Officers were able to identify Stone by her Mesquite phone number.

“It was clear that she was suffering from some type of mental illness.”

Mesquite Police officers contacted Stone and then transported her to the hospital in Mesquite.

Stone allegedly told police she did call the hospital and that she was unhappy with the doctors, but denied making the bomb threats, according to the affidavit.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

The old lady was in Mesquite – hard for feeble seniors to blow something up from 30 miles away .
( possible for some tech wizards but unlikely for demented seniors )
