Collision sends car into power box, 1 taken to hospital

ST. GEORGE – One person was taken to the hospital Tuesday night following a collision that sent one vehicle into a city power box.

Based on preliminary information, St. George Police Officer David Slack said, around 7 p.m. a pickup truck was driving eastbound on Red Hills Parkway when a Toyota Prius turned left in from of the truck by Skyline Drive, causing the collision.

The impact sent the Prius off the road and into a power box on the north side of Skyline drive. The power box was pushed back a few feet, but did not appear to sustain any major damage. Personnel with the St. George Fire Department were on scene with a work crew from St. George Energy Services and said there didn’t appear to be any noticeable impact to electrical systems in the area due to the incident.

The power box was placed back on its cement foundation and tended to by city Energy Services personnel.

The driver of the Prius was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center by Gold Cross Ambulance with unknown injuries, Slack said. No other injuries were reported.

The Prius was towed from the scene.

No citations were issued at the time of the accident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
