PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Cliven Bundy, the father of the jailed leader of the Oregon refuge occupation and who was the center of a standoff with federal officials in Nevada in 2014, was arrested in Portland, the FBI said.

Authorities arrested the 74-year-old Nevada rancher after he arrived at Portland International Airport from Las Vegas Wednesday night. He was booked into the lockup just before 11 p.m., according to Multnomah County Jail records. No charges were listed and his projected release date was listed as unknown.

The FBI confirmed Bundy was taken into federal custody but declined to provide a reason or other details, saying further information would be released by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Las Vegas, which did not respond to a phone call early Thursday.

The Oregonian reported Bundy will face a conspiracy charge of interfering with a federal officer related to the stalemate at his ranch in 2014.

In March of that year, Bundy clashed with federal officials over grazing rights on government land. Federal officials eventually backed away from seizing his cattle, but the dispute remains unresolved.

The Bureau of Land Management says the family has not made payments toward a $1.1 million grazing fee and penalty bill.

In the 2014 showdown, Cliven Bundy justified his actions in religious terms, saying that he decided to challenge federal agents after praying for guidance.

Armed group leader Ammon Bundy had been demanding that the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in southeastern Oregon be handed over to local control for ranching, mining, logging and other uses and that that two jailed ranchers in the area be freed.

Authorities arrested Ammon Bundy, his brother Ryan Bundy and other group leaders as they traveled to a community meeting Jan. 26 north of the refuge when authorities set up a road block.

Robert “LaVoy” Finicum, the group’s spokesman, was killed in a confrontation with the FBI and Oregon State Police on the remote road.

Bundy and others arrested in conjunction with the standoff face felony charges of conspiracy to impede federal officials in their official duties through the use of force, intimidation or threats.

If I were a jailer, I would throw a piece of rope in his cell with a acme knot guide for how to tie a hangman’s knot.
I also write outstanding job done by our excellent federal agents.

Everyone that pointed a rifle at federal agents in 2014 at the Bundy Ranch should probably be burying their guns and running to Mexico!

When you look at the acerbic reader remarks posted on Facebook regarding this story that the SG News posted, with so many commenters telling half-truths or outright lies, simply because they either love or hate Cliven Bundy, it’s no wonder so many people have stopped reading online posts. It should not surprise anyone that this is why politicians seeking election are in the habit of speaking half truths because they know that listeners will latch onto key, often inflammatory, words without looking into it any further than simply having heard someone say it. They know that will get them support. When you post, are you doing EXACTLY what it is you hate about so many politicians?

    • Chris February 11, 2016 at 11:29 am

Yeah, politicians never used half truths before online posting was possible.

  • NotSoFast February 11, 2016 at 10:32 am

I wonder if Bundy was black, a member of the Black Panthers party, is armed, was marching around a federal building with Al Sharpton, demanding justice for whatever or whoever, would be arrested if he didn’t leave when told to?
I know, I know, that’s a different subject, stupid me.

    • Chris February 11, 2016 at 11:26 am

The answer is yes, and yes to stupid you.

  • godisdead February 11, 2016 at 10:32 am

Why am I overjoyed at Cliven Bundy’s arrest? He broke the law, and the law won. His statements and actions are enough evidence to prove he is a menace to our society. My hope is that while locked up, he may learn a thing or two – maybe even about how his comments about “the negros”, are offensive.

  • anybody home February 11, 2016 at 10:32 am

I was up at 2:00 a.m. (Oregon time) reading about this and then immediately doing my happy dance at such great news! I’ve been waiting for this since I watched Cliven and his crew in 2014 when I was in Utah for a few months. It’s really sweet to see something like this happen. The old buzzard deserves every minute he spend in prison. In the meantime, Fiore has been up Oregon way to lead the lost four out of the Refuge. She’s using the occasion to campaign for her upcoming Congressional bid, but Oregonians don’t care about that. We’re just happy to see everybody clear out of the Refuge. The rest of the wingnuts can sort it out themselves.

The saga is about over. There are no heroes in this mess.

    • observer February 11, 2016 at 2:46 pm

Oregon’s saga has just begun. It appears that utility companies from most western states, have these secret agreements about that Uranium. So it’s correct that Harney county will never be the same nor a safe place to live – Uranium destroys the air, the ground, etc once mined. It’s active for minimum of 500 years. Talk about one day being a ghost town.

Those involved in the Uranium transaction on the lowest level with receive great profits, including those corrupt commissioners. Grasty is not a legal Judge; just a wanna-be. The local tribe wants a piece of it and grandma said it best “troublemakers” (stirring up the pot) – her family is banking on profiting. Sadly they’ll learn that it will cost them much for the little money the corrupt gives them.

Now that all the arrests are hitting the wire, it’s clear that one that wasn’t, yet part of the convoy, stands out more than ever – Mark McConnell.

If you think the arrested are the criminal cause, you’re wrong. The enemy sits amongst you right there in Burns, most concentrated in Portland. The media got what they were after and will leave. Let’s see who sticks around, pretending to want to help the citizens; when truthfully they were there to cause a stir for a “uranium reason”.

      • Accountable February 11, 2016 at 6:27 pm

        You are absolutely correct observer.

        • anybody home February 11, 2016 at 10:15 pm

Evidence, please. Documents, news stories, names. Otherwise, it’s just more of the wingnut conspiracy b.s.

Looks like it didn’t take nearly as long for the feds to produce a criminal complaint in this case: http://www.scribd.com/doc/298995440/Criminal-Complaint-Re-Cliven-Bundy

    • Roy J February 11, 2016 at 6:33 pm

This link provides the pretrial detention of those arrested in January at the Mahleur Wildlife Reserve. It provides an excellent explanation of who the co-conspirators in Bundy’s case, as well as detailed, dispassionate accounts of their behaviour both at the MNWR and the standoff in 2014. MIssing from this statement is the invective that has been used in place of the facts surrounding this event. http://www.scribd.com/doc/297643569/Bundy-Et-Al-Response-to-Pretrial-Release-Motions-1-29-16

  • 42214 February 11, 2016 at 2:49 pm

Good thing he didn’t reach for his gun like the other idiot did.

  • Rainbow Dash February 11, 2016 at 4:39 pm

I’m gad I’m not the only one celebrating the fact the Yallquaeda/Vanilla ISIS patriarch is behind bars. Hopefully he, his sons and everyone who was with them will remain that way for a very, VERY long time. To be completely honest though, I’d be happier if they had gone the way of their “comrade” LaVoy.

    • Roy J February 11, 2016 at 5:34 pm

Yeah, regarding the ‘followers’ parts mentioned in the complaint, I would not be too surprised if there are more arrests that follow upon this action.

  • Chris February 11, 2016 at 8:03 pm

After all the big talk and threats from the Bundy’s, this is how it all ends–not with a bang but a whimper (apologies to t.s. elliot). The popular support they claimed never materialized. No militias ever showed up to give anything but worthless words. No revolution of cowboys and patriots ever began. Just Michele Fiore making a bigger fool of herself, and then..silence. In a year or less, the general populace will completely forget the existence of Bundy’s and Finicum’s and will move on to the next road show of right wing idiots. I’m sure a worthy subject is waiting in the wings.

  • Brugh February 12, 2016 at 8:55 am

Hypocrisy at its finest! Native Americans have been dealing with “TERRORISTS” occupying OUR lands for DECADES! And now the Government says this group is breaking the law…yet the government is GUILTY of breaking their OWN laws! Where’s the justice there???? At least this time its white on white. Where as one life was taken…(my condolences to the Finicum family)….THOUSANDS of Native American were slaughtered or enslaved! The people who agree to this arrest…wheres your agreement now with the illegal OCCUPYING of Native American lands i.e AMERICA!!! Yeah…like I said….hypocrisy at its finest!!!!!!!!!

    • 42214 February 12, 2016 at 4:47 pm

So what, we won, they lost, get over it.

  • Ron February 12, 2016 at 9:02 am

I don’t agree with what Bundy has done one bit. And probably should be in jail for his outright refusal to pay the $1.1 million he owes in back grazing fees. After all, it is not his personal land. It belongs to the people. The courts is where he will be adjudicated and if convicted, will pay for his misdeeds.
Now, how about another public figure who also owes over $4 million dollars in unpaid income taxes? I am speaking about the infamous Rev. Al Sharpton. Why don’t I see the same outrage displayed for Bundy not paying overdue grazing fees applied to Sharpton for his unpaid income taxes? Here Bundy is arrested and jailed and prosecuted, and Sharpton has free access to and from the White House in DC, and has yet to be arrested for non-payment (same as Bundy) of income taxes. Is Sharpton a better person than Bundy? Does Sharpton deserve to be free while he continues to thumb his nose at the IRS and NOT pay his back taxes?
Why don’t you here who claim to be happy that Bundy is behind bars, put forth the same effort in having Sharpton prosecuted, for a greater amount of $$$ he owes than Bundy? He is basically taking money that belongs to the Federal government, much like Bundy’s sons took Federal property that belongs to the Federal government. Why does Sharpton get a free pass and not Bundy?
Imagine that….Bundy goes to jail and Sharpton keeps getting invited to the White House, the Peoples House. Something is most definitely wrong with this picture.

    • Rainbow Dash February 12, 2016 at 5:23 pm

They’re not arresting Bundy for not paying his “taxes”, they are arresting him because he led an armed militia against the government last year, made credible threats of violence and actions against U.S Officials and attempted to bring more “militia” to Oregon even after the arrest of his sons. An arrest that came about only because they armed themselves and forcefully, and with no provocation whatsoever, took over a bird sanctuary costing taxpayers MILLIONS of dollars.

      • Ron February 16, 2016 at 9:06 am

Rainbow Dash…..not paying taxes IS STILL a crime. Just like taking federal over federal property. Doesn’t matter if guns were involved or not, it is still a crime PERIOD. Sharpton should be arrested and prosecuted as well. Regardless if he led a militia or not, regardless if made credible threats of violence or not.
So by your reasoning, if the Bundys had not been armed, they would not have been arrested??? Right! Don’t you think $4.4 million dollars is costing taxpayers as well??
Sharpton is a drug selling, tax evading black thug who owes the federal government millions of dollars…PERIOD! He should be arrested also. Rainbow Dash, how about you stop paying your taxes and see how well that works out for you.
