CEDAR CITY – A Colorado man was arrested Sunday after asking a stranger if he could spend the night and then refusing to leave when told to go away.

Tino Chacon Jr., 34, from Loveland, Colorado, was arrested for resisting arrest, a class B misdemeanor, and for assaulting a police officer and criminal trespass, both class A misdemeanors.

According to charging documents the incident began when Chacon, along with his wife and minor son, showed up at the home of the victim, who was a complete stranger, asking if they could spend the night. The victim told him to leave her property and shut the door but Chacon, who had parked his car in the driveway, refused to go.

The victim called the Cedar City Police Department and when officers arrived they found Chacon and his son standing in the road in front of the residence. When officers asked the two what they were doing, Chacon told them “they were delivering the word of God to the people,” documents state.

While police were speaking with the suspect, Chacon’s wife Sherazada Chacon, 44, reportedly got out of the couple’s white Chevy Aveo and began yelling.

“She kept yelling to Tino that he did not have to listen to me or do anything I say because he was the Messiah,” Cedar City Police Officer Zach Banz wrote in his statement.

Sherazade Chacon was ordered to get back into the vehicle several times but would not, he added.

Banz then walked away from Tino Chacon to speak to the suspect’s wife telling her again to get back into the vehicle. She again refused his commands.

Sherazade Chacon then allegedly lunged at the officer with her arm raised as if she was attempting to attack.

“I grabbed her arm and put it behind her back and attempted to take her into custody,” Banz wrote. “While taking her into custody she tried to pull away and push against me several times.”

When Tino Chacon began yelling and running toward the officer Banz ordered the suspect to stop, which he did, but only long enough to allow him to put his wife in handcuffs and into the back of the patrol car.

As soon as Banz had Sherazade Chacon in custody, he began walking toward Tino Chacon who then allegedly started coming at the officer in an aggressive manner. Banz again ordered him to stop but the suspect kept going.

Tino Chacon raised his hands as if he was going to attack the officer at which time Banz grabbed the suspect’s arms and spun him around, putting him against the hood of the car, the documents state.

Tino Chacon kept fighting the officer until Banz was finally able to get control of the suspect and put him into custody.

Tino Chacon was booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail. Sherazada Chacon was cited for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. She was released on scene, said Cedar City Police Sgt. Jimmy Roden.

OK, mom and pop have “three hots and a cot” for the next couple of days or so. How about the “minor son?”
