ST. GEORGE — Dixie State University took another step forward in its efforts to encourage a more inclusive culture on campus as it announced the selection of Christina Duncan as the institution’s inclusion and equity fellow.
Duncan is Dixie State University’s assistant director of the Multicultural/Diversity Center and has served the university since 2011. Her new position as the inclusion and equity fellow will be in addition to her work in the Multicultural/Diversity Center.
“I am so excited to be selected as the first inclusion and equity fellow at Dixie State,” Duncan said. “Dixie is in an exciting period of its long and wonderful history here in Southern Utah, and I am thrilled to serve the university in this capacity.”
Duncan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in communications from Southern Utah University. She has a master’s from California State University-Bakersfield in applied sociology with an emphasis in race and gender relations. Before working at Dixie State, Duncan worked for both the California Community Colleges system and the California State University system in research and teaching.
She currently represents Dixie State University in a number of national, state, community and university committees. Duncan also serves as a member of the local American Association of University Women chapter.
Duncan hails from Los Angeles County in Southern California, but she also has pioneer roots in Southern Utah. She was raised by her hard-working mother, who instilled the importance of higher education in her at a very young age.
“My mother has been my guidepost,” Duncan said. “I watched her work hard, day in and day out, to keep food on our table and a roof over our head — all while attending college.”
Duncan considers administrators, faculty and staff at Dixie State University a family and looks forward to contributing to diversity on campus.
“The Dixie family is doing great things together as we move from status to stature,” Duncan said. “I am excited to take the momentum that each one of my family members here at Dixie has for inclusion and diversity and keep things moving.”
