Unidentified man allegedly assaults woman with children at laundromat

ST. GEORGE — Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly assaulted a woman Friday afternoon at a St. George laundromat before fleeing the area on a bicycle.

At approximately 12:39 p.m., police responded to a report of a robbery at the Laundromat located at 785 E. St. George Boulevard, St. George Police Lieutenant Thad Feltner said at the scene Friday.

A woman and her two small children were inside the business as the woman prepared to do her laundry.

“As she was putting her clothing in the laundry machine, an unknown male approached her,” Feltner said, “and she told him to back off. He pushed her over toward the bathroom area and assaulted her.”

Feltner said the woman’s two children – a 5-year-old and a 3-year-old – witnessed the assault.

“She was screaming and fighting back, and was able to get away with her children,” Feltner said.

The suspect was seen leaving the scene on a bicycle eastbound on St. George Boulevard before the woman said she lost sight of him.

Police set up a perimeter and combed the area in search of the unidentified male described by the woman as having long, dark hair with darker skin coloring.

As this report is published, the investigation is ongoing, Feltner said, adding that police are working to develop a suspect in the case.

Anyone with information about this incident, is asked to contact the St. George Police Department at 435-627-4300.
