ST. GEORGE — After signing a licensing agreement last year to open co-branded Doc Popcorn and Dippin’ Dots franchises inside eight Fabulous Freddy’s Car Wash locations throughout Utah and in Las Vegas, the first co-branded franchise unit opened earlier this year inside the Fabulous Freddy’s at 806 N. Bluff St. in St. George. An official grand opening will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and feature free Doc Popcorn and Dippin’ Dots, along with a chance to win both products free for a entire year.

The growing chain of Fabulous Freddy’s convenience stores attached to car washes began selling Dippin’ Dots flash-frozen ice cream products in its stores last year and is expanding its product offering to include Doc Popcorn’s fresh-popped popcorn. The first few locations will test a store-within-a-store model, while select locations will sell the product through branded displays.

“The three brands all resonate with the same energy. We’re all focused on fun, convenience and smile creation,” Jeff Warnick, CFO of Fabulous Freddy’s, said.“When the Doc Popcorn opportunity presented itself, it only made sense to include the fresh-popped snack in our stores. We’ve never had anything like it before.”

Freddys-BannerThe agreement is the next step in a line of co-branded developments for the two snack brands, which are owned by Fisher Enterprises. Fisher acquired Doc Popcorn last year and recently implemented a national strategy for co-brand location growth, with in-line stores and kiosks opening in malls across the country. The deal will bring the first Doc Popcorn locations to Utah, increasing the brand’s footprint in the region by joining the Doc Popcorn/Dippin’ Dots location in Las Vegas.

The co-brand units give customers the opportunity to satisfy any sweet or savory snack craving with the offerings of Doc Popcorn’s fresh-popped, kettle-cooked popcorn and Dippin’ Dots’ iconic flash-frozen ice cream, sundaes, floats, shakes and quakes.

“This new agreement couldn’t be a better fit for the Doc Popcorn brand,” said Rob Israel, co-founder and “Big Pop” of Doc Popcorn. “Fabulous Freddy’s customers and business model of providing convenience are directly in line with Doc Popcorn. The timed rollout of the new store prototypes will undoubtedly be a successfully venture for all three brands. We’re excited to make Doc Popcorn and Dippin’ Dots a household name in the region.”
