ST. GEORGE — A blown tire on a trailer caused a Dodge Ram truck to spin out of control, whipping the truck around 180 degrees and causing major damage to an off-highway vehicle that was being pulled on the trailer.
The accident occurred about 3 p.m. Monday afternoon just south of the Diamond Valley turnoff on state Route 18. Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Taj Eldredge was called to the accident site.
“The driver stated the Dodge Ram truck was southbound (on SR-18) pulling a utility trailer,” Eldredge said. “It also had a side-by-side (OHV) with it. The driver and passenger stated that the back left tire of the trailer blew, it went off to the road to the right and ended up doing a 180, throwing the side-by-side off about 15 feet into the rocks.”
The trooper said there was minor damage to the Dodge Ram truck as well as both left side tires being blown out by contact with the lava rocks, minor damage to the trailer, and extensive damage to the side-by-side.
Eldredge said no injuries were apparent or reported. Units from the Utah Highway Patrol and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
