ST GEORGE — A silver Pontiac Firebird collided with a white Honda Civic on Snow Canyon Parkway Thursday afternoon, causing both vehicles to be towed and a citation issued to the juvenile driver of the Pontiac.
At approximately 4:20 p.m., law enforcement and emergency response personnel received a report of a collision at the intersection of Snow Canyon Parkway and 1400 West Street. When they arrived, they found one car had collided with another vehicle near the center turn lane.
A silver Pontiac Firebird attempted to turn left off 1400 West on Snow Canyon Parkway, St George Police Sergeant Jordan Minnick said. The driver did not give enough time to make the turn and an eastbound white Honda Civic struck the Pontiac in the rear quarter panel of the driver’s side.
There were no injuries, Minnick said.
The driver of the Pontiac was a juvenile male, while the driver of the Honda was an adult male.
The driver of the Pontiac was cited for failure to yield after a stop.
There was one factor that may have contributed to the crash, Minnick said.
“I think it was probably just a little lack of experience in gauging … distances and didn’t give enough time for the turn and unfortunately for the eastbound vehicle that collided with it,” he said.
Both vehicles were towed away.
St. George Police and Fire departments and Gold Cross Ambulance all responded to the scene.
Traffic in the westbound lanes of Snow Canyon Parkway was briefly diverted to one lane, and traffic was stopped completely for several minutes when the tow truck loaded the Pontiac.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
